Description

Jade yoga mat is the best non-slip yoga mat that mat offers a perfect balance of traction and cushion. Jade mats are made with open-cell, natural rubber, which is well known for offering terrific slip-resistance. As a result, you no longer have to worry about slipping on your practice mat–even if it gets wet with perspiration. Jade mats also offer exceptional resilience, unmatched compression-set resistance, and incomparable cushioning, so you’ll stay comfortable with every pose. And because natural rubber is a renewable resource tapped from rubber trees, the company’s mats contain no PVC or ozone-depleting substances. Jade mats – which are made in the U.S. in compliance with all U.S. environmental and labor laws – are perfect for the yogi concerned about the Earth. Jade Yoga also plants a tree for every mat sold in partnership with Trees for the Future.

In a way, Jade Yoga began long before launching its first purple and blue Harmony yoga mats in 2002. Jade Yoga grew out of Jade Industries, a company that had been making non-slip natural rubber rug pads for area rugs since the early 1970s. For many years, Jade Industries also sold rug pads to select yogis in the area for use as yoga mats. As the story goes, rug mats first attracted the attention of yogis after B.K.S. Iyengar–who was in the U.S. doing a yoga demonstration on an oriental rug – asked a student to remove the rug after slipping repeatedly. Under the rug sat a rug mat, and the first yoga mat was born. Unfortunately, most yoga companies started making mats of cheap, imitation plastic or PVC instead – annoyingly slippery surfaces that were close to useless for many practices. Jade Yoga began in earnest in 2000 after it was approached by a savvy yogi who described the problem with these plastic and PVC mats. As Jade Industries were already making natural rubber rug pads, the company approached the problem from that angle and developed the Harmony, the first natural rubber yoga mat. Located in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, Jade Yoga has a number of products in the pipeline that align with the company’s vision of producing high-quality products in an Earth-friendly way.

Yoga Mat Review

★★★★★
An excellent natural rubber non-slip yoga mat. The open-cell design allows for quick moisture absorption while extra thickness increases stability. Jade mats are almost of the same quality as higher end Manduka mats, however Jade are lighter, more porous and lack the dual surface feature of the BlackMat Pro. The performance of Jade Harmony is excellent, the mat provides perfect stability and comfort with superb moisture absorption - a very important aspect for hot (Bikram) yoga practitioners. After a few years of moderate use Jade mats tend to start shedding little pieces of rubber, but their performance remains un-compromised. If you are looking for a high end, lightweight natural rubber yoga mat designed for extensive practice – this is the mat for you. Jade mats come in a variety of attractive colors and there are thinner versions available.

I have tried many of the “name” brand yoga mats (including Manduka). They all have their weaknesses. And everyone has their own body, yoga style, and preferences. That said, this mat comes closest to meeting all my needs. I particularly like the extra length. It’s not enough to get in the way in the yoga studio, but it is enough keep me from stepping off on those wide stances. And I am considered average height for a man. I have bony knees and I would have preferred a little more cushioning, but the thicker version of this mat (which I also own) I find to have too much give for balancing poses.

At the studio, they have some Jades that are over a year old, and they have a great grip. There must be some factory coating on this, because it does get a little slippery at times…but nowhere near as much as the other mat’s I’ve tried. I just purchased this mat as I started Yoga Teacher Training to be my main mat and I am very satisfied.

Generally, this mat is pricey, but an Amazon seller had a great price and it arrived really fast.

I’ve used it a handful of times and it is just the right thickness and isn’t slippery at all :) I don’t notice the rubber smell and love that it’s a little more earth-friendly than other options.

After using a Jade Harmony Yoga Mat, I will never use anything else. In the past, I had always preferred extra thick mats to give me extra cushioning. What I like about this mat is while it is the standard mat thickness, it gives more cushioning than any extra thick mat that I have ever used. I cannot feel the floor beneath me when using this mat because it is such a sturdy and dense mat. I can’t see any reason to really even look at the extra thick version of this mat since the standard is so good. Also, it has the best traction of any mat I have ever used. I’ve slipped on other mats in the past, but every time I have gone into a pose on this mat I have been firmly plated. Being that this is made from natural rubber, there is a rubbery smell to it but it is not as bad as some of the reviews would have you believe, and no worse than any other mat I have used. Every instructor at the studio where I practice uses Jade mats, and several students do as well. I took their advice and got one, and am so happy that I did. These are the best mats that I have seen, and I will never go back to using anything else.

After reading the reviews, I thought my Jade Harmony Yoga Mat would stink to high heaven for months. I exected to get headachey and nauseous! The first time I used it, I must admit, the smell DID overwhelm me! However, I opened my windows, put my fans on it and aired it out a few days. I recomend to anyone buying a Jade Yoga mat to air it out awhile before use. Now, when I use it, I only smell a faint smell of rubber.

It doesn’t slip when I use it. My old mat slipped all over the place in my carpeted living room. Not so with the Jade Yoga Mat. I sweat alot and it doesn’t slip when wet. I just purchased my mat not long ago, so I can’t say about long term use. I am very happy with my mat so far and the price is very reasonable compared to other brands of yoga mats. I think I got a great bargain. I highly recomend this mat!

After a long hiatus from yoga I finally started getting back into the groove and going to Vinyasa flow. I had one of those dinky mats from Target the Gaiam one which I thought was so cute and great because it was pink. Little did I know that it wouldn’t be able to handle the rough workouts that Vinyasa inevitably turns into.

So I bought another mat from LotusPad, which I had read about being eco friendly as well. However, that mat didn’t even last for one session for me I was slipping and sliding all over the place!!! That makes it very hard to concentrate on top of already trying to keep your balance so I returned that right away!

Finally, at long last I bought a Jade Harmony since I figured it was worth it if I was going to continue doing yoga and it was well worth the price and purchase!! The only downfall is that it does have sort of a chemically smell when you first get it but my instructor said I could throw it in a delicate wash and hang dry it. I highly recommend this product for users that do Bikram or Vinyasa!

It’s perfect for big, heavy and really sweaty people like me… No other mat gives me such great stability, my feet really stick to this mat. The only bad thing is the rubber smell… but its worth it and it fades off!

I’m in my early sixty’s and have been doing yoga for most of my adult life. Teaching bring a lot of students with a wide variety of yoga mats. Over the years I’ve tried them all. I haven’t bought myself a new mat in years because there was nothing out there that was anything special. I read a couple of very good reviews about the Jade mat. I went on line to find out more. I saw the price. I had to talk myself into buying the mat by saying that this is an investment in my passion. I had to let it air out for a couple of days to get rid of the rubber odor. I took it to class. The mat was great. I felt very secure and sure footed. I put my other mats away. I went to an all day Iyengar workshop. Everyone wanted to work with me on my mat or use it when I wasn’t using it. Great mat. Well worth the extra cost. I hope I feel the same way after a year or two?

I’d used a PVC mat for years before buying this one and it is a marked improvement. It has much more grip and padding and is environmentally friendly. Air it out a few days because the smell is pretty strong at first but it fades.

I have used other yoga mats in the past and I love this yoga mat. It is perfect for serious yogis. It is made of natural rubber. No mater how much you sweat in your hands, and legs you will not slip when using this mat. You can really feel how your hands grip on your hands when using this mat. I have used thicker mats in the past, but the thickness of this mat feels great. It is not so thin that you have no comfort, but it is just thick enough where your legs and hands don’t feel too much strain.

I am 5’9″ and this mat is plenty wide and long for me. I got the orange kind and it looks great. This is such a sticky mat that if you have a hairy chest I would not recommend doing yoga without a shirt on. Most yoga mats have two sides where one side has the bumps closer together and grips better on the hardwood floors. Both sides of the harmony yoga mat are equally sticky, so it doesn’t matter which side you use. If you have dandruf or leave lots of dead skin cells when doing yoga, I would recommend cleaning the mat regularly since these skin cells will stick to it.

I clean my mat using plain water and let it dip dry. The mat is great and very durable. My yoga teacher and many students in my class use it. They all love it. This mat is a bit more expensive than other mats, but it is worth the money. JadeYoga will plant a tree for you when you buy a yoga mat from them. This mat is eco friendly, but may have small residues of natural latex. Before buying this mat I also looked into getting a manduka mat and read many reviews online for both brands. I would totally recommend this mat to friends.

This mat is the best I have used. It does not slip even when sweating profusely and dripping on the mat. The smell that most complain about is not that bad. I did not let mine air out and it does not bother me. I have only used it a few times so the verdict is still out on durability. I find it was worth the money so far as I was willing to pay a little extra for a non-PVC mat and better grip.

This mat has a slight rubbery smell, but has excellent grip, even in a sweaty practice. I’ve used one for over a year in a vigorous Ashtanga practice and have only slight breakdown. Try the thicker one for a more padded ride.

this is the best mat I have ever purchased. I have a power yoga practice that is done in a heated room. I found that this mat is incredibly sticky and holds me right in place. Occasionally i need to put my yogi toes down when I’m really sweaty. I would highly recommend this mat to anyone that needs a grippy mat.

I had been on the lookout for a decent non-slip mat for some time. Fortunately, not only did I find a good one, but it’s environmentally friendly too! And in colors (early rubber mats were in white…snore)!

The cushion is nice too, especially if you attend classes at a studio with a hard floor surface (those thin, plastic mats just don’t cut it on hardwood). It *is* heavier than the average mat, so you’ll feel the difference rolling it up and carrying it around. Plus it doesn’t slide in and out of my cloth yoga mat bag like the plastic mats, so I’ve given up the mat bag for velcro straps. There’s a heavy rubber smell in the beginning, but that goes away with time.

Easy to clean too ~ I just rub down with anti-bacterial wipes. I can’t comment on durability yet, as I’ve only had this mat for about 3 months. But I use it nearly every day and drag it back and forth to class, and it’s as solid as the day I bought it.

I have been doing yoga for several years now…and almost from the beginning started a quest for the next better stickier yoga mat. My yoga practice will make me sweat…especially in the summer months. This mat is so sticky, that it sticks to every part that is touching it, not just the hands and feet. No more sliding around in poses such as the downward dog where your hands really need to sink into the mat and you push your whole weight up and back. I almost did not buy it…after trying many other mats I just assumed it would not get any better…well, I am very happy that I did: it is -hands down-the best yoga mat I have ever come across.

Great grip. Absolutely recommended. May sometimes skid on the back footing of some warriors, but only rarely. A thicker model would take care of that, I imagine. But again, the grip is par-none.

These mats are much more “sticky” than the average mat even when I am sweating from a hot practice. They are also thicker and can be purchased in a longer version (good for tall people and angle or lunge poses). Some people are bothered by the rubber smell – I hung mine over a rod for a week and it seems fine. The sustainability was important to me too – a natural product helps me feel more connected to the world than a petroleum product. I recommend these to my students and to you too!

This is my 5th mat and definitely the best. It’s not slippery at all. It has much more grip than my other mats (incl. Gaiam, Lululemon, Prana). It does pick up some lint and hair though so I recommend not getting a light color.

This mat is the best! It is more sustainable than other options out there and has great grip. Go for the longer 74″ version, you won’t be sorry.

I got this mat about six weeks ago in Tibetan Orange. I wanted something that would be sticky because my hands get sweaty as I practice. I chose this one based on the Amazon reviews I read, and so far, I really like it. I tried out a Manduka black mat at my yoga studio, and I prefer the Jade Harmony for its stickiness, and for its lower cost. The Jade Harmony did smell a bit when I got it, but that is gone now. The weight is fine for carrying. I especially like the long length of this mat. I thought the orange color might be a little too bright when I ordered it, but it’s a nice warm color that seems happy in the low light of a yoga class.

I’ve used a Jade harmony yoga mat for more than 2 years in a regular vinyasa practice. I remember it had a rubber smell at first, but the smell didn’t bother me at all (it’s weird but I actually liked the smell).

I saw a couple reviewers said it was slippery and not durable – I have had the opposite experience. It’s lasted more than 2 years and still has much life to it. It’s slightly worn where my downdog hands and feet go, but has actually given me more traction in those places. I should also say I’m an advanced yogi and am very rough on it. It’s also great for traction. I’ve tried Wai Lana and other mats and this one is definitely the best. It does get slippery if I’m completely drenched with sweat, so I don’t practice hot yoga without a towel on it. But I typically sweat a lot and my slippage is fairly minimal.

Tip for cleaning – every 3-4 practices I take my mat in the shower with me and rinse both sides with water, then let hang dry. No chemicals and it’s kept it clean and in great condition. I can’t speak highly enough of this mat.

I’ve been using this mat for 5 months now. This is what I have found.

PROS:

-Very Sticky: traction is only a problem when absolutely drenched in sweat

-Lays Very flat: it only rolls off the floor a tiny amount when laid flat

-Excellent cushioning: I have found it adequate for nearly everything, surprising for a 3/16 mat

-Biodegradable: made of natural rubber

CONS:

-Heavy: not the heaviest mat out there by far, but it could be lighter

-Stretchy: you can push little hills up with you hands and feet allowing your hands and feet to move a little. I haven’t found this to be a big problem, but it could be improved.

-Noticeable smell: real rubber = real rubber smell

-Dirty: the mat has a tendency to absorb sweat and collect small skin & dust particles. Cheap, plastic mats seem to be better in this regard.

Neutral but worthwhile points:

-Price: the main competitor to this mat is the Manduka BlackMatPRO 71″, which ranges from $80 and up.

-Be sure to buy an extra large mat bag or strap for this mat, it is a bit unwieldy without it.

-YogaAccessories (TM) Black OM Cotton Yoga Mat Bag This has worked well for me, but the mat is so sticky that sliding it into the bag can be difficult; a strap might be a better choice.

My hands can sweat a lot so I still slip sometimes when using this mat. However, it is a huge improvement over my past mat. Not being so preoccupied with my hands slipping has been an improvement for my practice.

Definitely use a mat towel to do power yoga on this mat.

The mat is expensive, but the fact that it was made in the U.S. makes it worth it.

i started with the traditional sticky mat.. i used it about 3-5 times a week for a year and it begun to stink (from sweat)… so i got the harmony mat.. everything i have read on these reviews are true except i do not have the trouble of it getting dirty and slippery. i sweat on my mat like crazy and when i get home, i hang it.. try to never leave it rolled up. it did smell like rubber for several months but that has faded.. there is one thing i did not like though.. i would sometimes taste the bitterness of rubber if my lips would touch the mat.. it did sting my eyes too when my forehead would touch the mat and sweat would run into my eyes. all that is no longer a concern because it’s rubber aroma and bitterness is gone. i’ve used my mat for about a year now.. pretty frequently. i teach and practice almost every day.

I’ve practiced for several years and have finally decided to get serious about my practice. I think your yoga mat is a safe and sacred place for meditation, work, peace, and health.

I really appreciate how this mat has helped my practice- the texture of the mat is non slip so even in a good workout I can focus on the quality of my pose and not sliding out of it a la- sweaty mess. I like the colors and feel safe spending so much time on quality material.

I have the 5/16″ thick one and find it to be very comfortable.

The only drawback to this mat is the price but I think it’s worth it.

Enjoy. . .

I needed a mat that was sticky even with heavy sweeting. This mat is the best I’ve used so far. The 74 inch is also a plus. I will order the 74×27 next time. I had no problem with smell, would not have notice had I not read about it.
